Quick Facts
The Colorado Trail was conceived in 1973 by the Forest Service, but officially functionally linked and open for recreational use in 1987.
Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness can affect anyone at anytime. However if you are from out of state you are more susceptible to altitude sickness and it is recommended you arrive four days early to help acclimate to the altitude.
Foot Care
Blisters are the most common problem. Your feet must be conditioned to hike. Broken in hiking shoes are a must. You can hike in hiking boots or trail running shoes. Whatever you choose to hike in they must be comfortable and have many proven miles on them.

Why Choose Us For Your Colorado Hiking Vacation?

Credibility and Integrity

Jeanne and Chris - Your backpacking vacation guides
Jeanne & Chris Szczech

Over fifteen years of marriage have taught Chris and Jeanne Szczech the value of working together and the importance of clear communication. Both of them have been exploring in the wilderness since they’ve been able to walk! Whether as an Eagle Scout, USMC Infantry Officer, or while climbing mountains or backpacking with Jeanne, Chris believes in keeping his skills honed. Jeanne’s love of the outdoors was instilled in her at an early age by her parents and six siblings. Stewardship and attention to detail are her focus. When they’re not hiking the Colorado Trail, they can be found with their two daughters in the mountains or the rivers of the Southwest.

Chris and Jeanne are also hired by The Colorado Trail Foundation to be the managers of The Colorado Trail Foundation Trekking Program. They will ensure that your Colorado hiking vacation is highly enjoyable and safe.

References

We have many written testimonials from past customers who have been very happy with their Colorado hiking vacation. If you would like us to send you a copy of these testimonials we would be happy to do so. Our headquarters is located in Durango, Co., which is a small town of 18,000 people. Word of mouth is our best advertising. If we were doing a bad job, we would get run out of town.

Spectacular Scenery

You must experience the Colorado hiking vacation in person to understand how gorgeous the scenery really is. Photos really cannot depict the grandeur!! The Colorado Trail, a wilderness path designed to traverse some of the most scenic areas of the Rockies and the Continental Divide, is a unique experience for both the body and the soul. This will be one backpacking vacation you won't want to miss.

Small Groups - We Will Remember Your Name

Our business name, Colorado Mountain Expeditions, may indicate that we are a big conglomerate or tour group, but this could not be further from the truth. We are a small guide service operated by a husband and wife team. Our hiking group size is from 12 to 14 people per week. We only offer six to eight weeks of Colorado hiking per year, which translates to only taking about 96 hiking clients per year. Now, that is small and exclusive!. Our goal is to offer a trip that will produce many great memories for years to come.

Humor

We like to have fun. If you have a sense of humor, you will like us. If you are a sour puss, you will probably be converted by the time you leave.
